Marriott International’s Miami Beach EDITION, done in collaboration with Ian Schrager, opened its doors to hotel guests today. The new design brings a modern look to an old building. Located at 2901 Collins Avenue, the former Seville Hotel was purchased in July 2010 by Marriott for $57.5 million, according to the Miami Herald. The remodeled hotel offers 294 rooms with 23 two-story bungalows and 26 residences on a 3.5-acre property. Designed by Yabu Pushelberg/I.S.C. Design Studio, the EDITION includes two swimming pools, a dance club, an ice skating rink and a bowling alley. Rates range from $429 a night for a standard room up to $10,000 a night for a bungalow. Marriott president and CEO Arne Sorenson had Miami in mind for an EDITION hotel for a specific reason. “Let’s pick key cities where we know these hotels will do great, cities that are also about where the influencers in the world experience things so that they could see this quickly and obviously communicate about what they’re finding,” he said to the Herald. Marriott declined to disclose the hotel’s development costs to the Herald.
